MOBILE, AL, DECEMBER 15, 2017 – Mobile, AL, based water management solution provider Capiphon USA, LLC., is pleased to announce that through mentoring by the Tennessee Department of Transportation – Testing & Evaluation Division, the Capiphon Drain Belt has been accepted by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for testing.
This will result in the product being listed on the AASHTO Product Evaluation List (APEL). The APEL testing serves as the gateway for the Capiphon Drain Belt to be incorporated for state and federal highway usage.
“This has been a long process, as the acceptance for the product testing must be approved by a board of highway officials and the product must be seen as an innovative product not already being used by highway officials in the USA.” said John B. Tisserand, III, Sales & Operations for Capiphon USA, LLC. “After acceptance for testing, there was a requirement for a testing statement of work, then the testing laboratories had to submit test proposals with the specific tests and cost of testing. We have accepted the testing regime and the testing should begin in January with a two month turn around on the tests.” say’s John.
Initial acceptance of Capiphon Drain Belt was notified on the APEL website in July of 2017 – see: http://apel.transportation.org/AASHTOEvaluated/Index. It also states:“It is important to note that APEL is NOT an approved products list, rather it is a source for independent, unbiased data and information from which state product coordinators may determine to use new, innovative products in conformance with the Code of Federal Regulations 23 CFR 635.411 (a)(2).”
“Without APEL testing, the Capiphon Drain belt won’t be considered by highway system engineers” says John. Once the testing is complete and the results are as expected, the company plans to push to get the product in front of State and Federal Highway officials and engineering firms working road and highway retaining wall projects as soon as possible.
